About Cambodia
Mains water is not suitable for drinking but bottled water is widelyavailable. Avoid uncooked meat,unpeeled fruit,salads and food sold bystreet vendors,and don't drink beverages with ice. Medical facilitiesare poor,except for a few expensive private clinics in Phnom Penh.Treatment must be paid for with cash and health insurance is essential.
Cambodia Currency
Most transactions require cash. US dollars and Thai Baht are accepted,although smaller transactions are usually done in riel. A torn US dollar note renders it useless. Credit cards are only accepted in a limited number of tourist-orientated hotels and restaurants in Phnom Penh and larger towns.
Siem Reap
Siem Reap is the main access city for the temples of Angkor,andlaunching pad for onward travel into Thailand. Although marred byhastily constructed modern buildings,Siem Reap does have beautifulcolonial and Chinese-style architecture adorning the streets of the OldFrench Quarter. The town itself offers many attractions for visitors,including Apsara dance performances,museums and craft shops.
Sihanoukville
Sihanoukville attracts tourists with its relaxed beach atmosphere when compared to Thailand's more developed ones. However,the city has attracted not only tourists,but several NGOs and foreign and national investors in the last years in order to develop not only the growing tourist industry,but its capacity as an international sea port[5] and other sectors like textile and real estate. In Sihanoukville is also located the main factory of Angkor Beer,the Cambodian national beer.

Estimates of the total number of deaths resulting from Khmer Rouge policies,including disease and starvation,range from 1.7 to 2.5 million out of a population of around 8 million. In 1979,communist Vietnam invaded Democratic Kampuchea and toppled the Khmer Rouge regime.
